About Grey
My name is Michael Holt, but I write under the pen name of Grey Tracer. In 2013 a retired racing greyhound named Ryker came into my life; the bond built between hound and human formed quickly. Grey Tracer was selected as a pen name in honor of Ryker's life on the track--where he was a greyt racer.
Ryker and I walked through the Freemason District of Norfolk, Virginia, and along the downtown waterfront daily. We would often encounter young children playing in the parks or sharing the sidewalk with us. Without fail, a multitude of questions would be asked concerning Ryker's breed, age, and disposition, which would ultimately end with their asking to pet him. Afterwards, they would walk off merrily, excited by the opportunity to get up close to such a big dog. Needless to say, these encounters with children and/or parents led to my blogging about them and eventually to writing children's stories.
Life lessons are subtly presented within my works for children-- whether picture, chapter, or YA fiction books. I believe that reading can be a shared adventure; consequently, an older reading partner may be able to help readers draw conclusions about the lessons presented and how they might apply to their daily lives.
